#CyberSciBar is a series of free, public science-themed talks streamed live on Twitch.
The idea that human minds and brains differ from person to person is a concept known as Neurodiversity. Autism is just one form of neurodiversity, and is currently characterised by differences in communication style, movement, sensory processing, and attentional focus.
Whilst most people have heard of autism in one way or another, there is a lot of myth and misconception about what autism is (and isn’t) and what autistic people are like. In our September CyberSciBar, Dr Amy Pearson, Senior Lecturer in Psychology at the University of Sunderland, will talk about how good we are at diagnosing autism, whether autism is easy to spot, and the kinds of issues that autistic people face and what we can do to support them.
